Bento Break

It's Spring Break here in my part of the world! And I'm experimenting.... as much as I believe in the whole bento thing, I'm taking the week off. I'm pretty much home this week anyhow so this is a good opportunity to see what happens when I'm not all pre-packed and ready to go.

I also have been struggling with some tummy issues (yay for DGL... magic pills for gastritis, I tell you), and have been avoiding food because I wasn't sure what exactly was causing the upset. So, I have 8 boxes sitting in my fridge that I need to dump and put in the dishtub for the dish boy to clean. He's going to LOVE me. I can only imagine the commentary this evening...

Thus, no packed meals this week. No post. Just an acknowledgement that sometimes we all need to take a break- from whatever is working for you- in order for it to keep working in the future.

Oh, and I just read Trim Healthy Mama and I'm excited to incorporate some of those recipes into my current way of eating. The meals are very similar, but THM has more leeway and more interesting recipes than what I've been doing. I'd love to eventually quit paying for the Vemma products, but they are working for now so I will continue.

Are you taking a break from something?

  2. Enjoy the break! I wish I was taking a break from something (not counting the break from cooking and dishes yesterday due to clogged plumbing -- plumber is here, now)! Hopefully you will take a break this summer and come out to the PNW. :)

  3. What a great idea... nice to get a break and come back more enthused and perhaps ready to tweak. Happy spring break!

  4. I have never heard of bento, so I look forward to looking through your website and learning more. I have heard of gastritis, spring break, and Slim Healthy Mama, however. Hope you get over your gastritis, so you can enjoy spring break incorporating your new dietary lessons. God bless, Maria from Delight Directed Living

  5. Jules, breaks are extremely important, and I know just what it's like to have to adjust diet, avoid solid food, and reconfigure an approach to sustenance! Bentos are lovely and I have often had to prepare food and other survival necessities in advance or else be very ill as a result of what is randomly available; at the same time, I have discovered that many people go through this and discover ways of healing digestive and stress troubles. I am grateful to see your posts about your journey. You post reminds me of the yoga concept of brahmacharya, abstaining from something to free your mind (and body, etc.) of an ailment. Happy A to Z Challenge! I'll look forward to reading your posts. I'm at killeryoga.blogspot.com

  7. I was finally able to add myself to your follow list! Yay! I have no idea what Bento is...so I will enjoy looking into that because I LOOOOVE learning new things. I can relate all too well to stomach upset - have been dealing with that off and on for the last couple of years due to fluctuations with my thyroid/Hashimoto's issue. I am into eating clean as much as possible and no gluten or dairy (or very little...). So interesting!

I am not really taking a break from anything....Hmm...

    1. Winning! Good job. GFC is just stinky. It never works right for me, but I got a workaround figured out. Do you have any great stomach-upset-relieving-tips?

  8. Linking up via the A to Z challenge: this year I'm all about finding balance within my crazy, what to busy schedule. I've recently stepped down from a voluntary position to free up some time and stress. Stepping down is hard, I am bad at saying no, but when I get overwhelmed, I know it is just what I need to be able to breath more.
